Making the decision to stop abusing substances is never an easy one, and even well
into recovery one can struggle with loss, grief, self-hate and problem moods. For
family members and loved ones of those who are affected by addiction, there can
be confusion, frustration, anger or guilt. Professional help with the difficulties
and grief often inherent in facing the issues related to dependency can be of great
assistance in the healing process.
Growing up in a home where addiction was present can cause problems that haunt one
for a life time. Adult Children of Alcoholics can suffer from difficulties with
intimacy and relationships, heightened reactivity, poor self-esteem and over responsibility.
We provide individual sessions for adults who grew up families affected by addiction,
as well as resources and contacts to further support your healing and recovery.
At Portland Relationship Center we believe that therapy that supports recovery must
assist clients to:
- learn and identify emotions
- resolve anger and frustrations
- increase trust in others
- learn good self-care challenge and change faulty thinking patterns
At Portland Relationship Center, Stephanie SaintCyr, MSW CADCII, provides
services for those who are in recovery, currently suffering from problems with alcohol
or drugs and their partners and families. Through a variety of techniques such as
cognitive, psychodynamic, gestalt, other experiential techniques and traditional
recovery models Stephanie offers support to those who have experienced the impact
of substance abuse.
