Groups are the social units basic to all human lives. We are born
into a group, raised, socialized and schooled in groups and as adults many of
us live and work in groups. In most cultures, community is the individual’s most
significant arena in which to learn, grow, give and receive support and find
meaning in life.
Regardless of how central groups are to our very existence, many of
us feel self-conscious, insecure, awkward, judgmental or vulnerable in the face
of a group. In our society we all too easily isolate ourselves from groups,
indulge in our negative beliefs about our own belonging, and avoid the wealth
of experiences that can unfold in the presence of others.
At Portland Relationship Center we believe that groups can be our
strongest support when attempting to change behaviors, increase our self
confidence or to come to understand why we react toward others unsuccessfully.
Group is a safe place that may replicate our childhood or the relationships in
which we currently struggle. Group is a place that we can imagine who it is
that we want to be. We may then practice these new behaviors in the spirit of
community and camaraderie.
Portland Relationship Center offers ongoing group sessions for adults
that are interested in personal development through examining issues. In group
we further examine the thoughts and themes that arise in relationships. Ongoing groups offered:
- Imago® Groups for Individuals and Couples
- Couplehood as a Spiritual Path® an Imago group for Christian couples
- “Change Mind and Change Your Life," a cognitive therapy group to retrain your brain
for happiness and well-being
- Parent Support and Skill Building with Lisa Walcott, our child and parenting specialist
- Adolescent Groups with Nicole Carroll, MSW, LCSW
- Men’s Group with John Wolfe, MSW
- Blending Family Group with John Wolfe, MSW
